Holiday Inn Express & Suites certainly isn’t going to win any awards for originality. But for a business traveler just looking for a comfortable place to stay (and in an awesome location to boot), this property gets the job done.
Fodor's Expert Review
Located in Northwest Portland, Holiday Inn Express & Suites is a comfortable, no-frills hotel that caters to business travelers. While there’s certainly nothing fancy about the property, it does have some modern amenities that help set it apart from other similar hotels - and it’s conveniently located just minutes from the hustle and bustle of downtown Portland and the peace and quiet of Forest Park, one of Portland’s most notable landmarks and the largest urban forest in the United States.

Room
The rooms at Holiday Inn Express & Suites are...fine. Nothing special here. Rooms are on the larger side and come equipped with a coffee-maker, a microwave, and a mini-fridge, which is helpful for business travelers who don’t want to have to leave the room every time they need a snack or a jolt of caffeine.
Bathroom
The bathrooms are a decent size with plenty of counter space. If you need bathroom supplies like shampoo or toothpaste, just call the front desk and they’ll hook you up.
You Should Know The water pressure has a history of being low at Holiday Inn Express & Suites, so if you find the shower to be more of a trickle than a steady stream of water, don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Lobby
While the lobby isn’t winning any design awards, one thing that really stands out at Holiday Inn Express & Suites is the friendliness of the front-desk staff.
Tip The coffee in the lobby is available all day and has a Free.99 price tag, so make sure you stop by and grab a cup before you head out for the day.
Pool
One thing Holiday Inn Express & Suites has that many Portland hotels do not is a pool. The indoor pool is perfect for swimming laps or taking a quick dip (and make sure to follow it with a soak in the hot tub!).
Gym
Holiday Inn Express & Suites does have a fitness center, but it’s pretty bare-bones - basically just a few treadmills and stationary bikes. If you’re looking for a real workout, you’ll probably want to look elsewhere.
Dining
There’s no on-site restaurant at Holiday Inn Express & Suites, but a full continental breakfast (featuring both hot and cold items) is included in your stay.
Drinking
Unfortunately, the breakfast bar at Holiday Inn Express & Suites doesn’t include alcohol (I guess they don’t operate under the “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere” mentality). If you want to get a drink, you’ll have to venture out into the city.

Getting Around
Northwest Portland is extremely walkable, so you can get most places on foot or by using public transportation (there are plenty of bus stops in the neighborhood that will take you pretty much anywhere you need to go within the city). If you do decide to bring a car, free parking is available.
Restaurants
Grassa (6-minute walk) is a local favorite serving up a rotating menu of inventive house-made pasta dishes like Squid Ink Mafaldine and Pork Belly Mac and Cheese. For brunch, try Meriweather’s Restaurant & Skyline Farm (6-minute walk), which serves brunch staples like buttermilk waffles and biscuits and gravy in a cozy, inviting atmosphere (if the weather permits, make sure to request a table on the garden terrace).
