Fodor's Expert Review National Wildlife Refuges Visitor Center
In a new LEED-certified facility run by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, you'll find lifelike dioramas and fun interactive exhibits, including a virtual "flyover" of 11 national wildlife refuges in a digital Cessna aircraft. Three crackerjack films are shown in a cushy 130-seat auditorium. If you're into native landscaping, you'll appreciate the plantings around the building, consisting entirely of vegetation exclusive to eastern North Carolina. The center's 35 acres include four hiking trails.
