Fodor's Expert Review Sanderling Resort

1461 Duck Rd., Duck, North Carolina, 27949, USA Fodor's Choice

Drenched in decades of tradition, this luxury resort comprising three multistory buildings and five large rental homes spreads over 16 quiet acres of ocean-to-sound property, 5 miles north of Duck and 10 miles south of Corolla. Walk through a nature trail in adjacent Pine Island Bird Sanctuary, swim in the ocean or outdoor pools, or sign up for kayak tours, paddleboard lessons, yoga classes, and other activities. The elegant, dinner-only Kimball's Kitchen restaurant (open May to October) has a wall of windows overlooking Currituck Sound. The resort-casual Lifesaving Station, a restored 1899 former lifesaving station that was renovated in 2017, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner year-round.
