Fodor's Expert Review Graystone Inn
100 S. 3rd St., Wilmington, North Carolina, 28401, USA
Even the name Graystone evokes an air of elegant sophistication, and the chance to experience a mansion of this caliber with its elegant public rooms and stately bedrooms shouldn't be missed. This turn-of-the-20th-century three-story home, which has been used as a set for several films, was built by the widow of a successful merchant, and she spared no expense when it came to architectural detail—rich ceiling coffers, columns, moldings, fireplaces, and other decorative touches. A covered veranda overlooks the gardens. Bedrooms are spacious, although some additional upgrades are needed, and the bathrooms in the three suites are unusually modern and roomy.
