Fodor's Expert Review The Biltmore Greensboro

111 W. Washington St., Greensboro, North Carolina, 27401, USA

In the heart of the central business district, this historic spot (opened in 1903) has an old-world, slightly faded feel, with 16-foot ceilings, a cage elevator, and a lobby with walnut-panel walls and a fireplace. Don't expect the luxuries of the unaffiliated Biltmore in Asheville—the antique charm is comfortable, not fussy, and each guest room is individually decorated. Some have genuine or reproduction Victorian furniture and electric candle sconces, and all have a lot of character. Complimentary wine in the evenings adds a friendly touch. For a set fee, pooches get a bed to use and a treat and toy to take home.
