Fodor's Expert Review Benne on Eagle

$$$$ Downtown Asheville American
In the Foundry Hotel, James Beard Award finalist John Fleer's newest venture combines traditional Appalachian dishes with Lowcountry and Gullah flavors. The high-ceiling, industrial-style decor is softened by a collection of sketches of African American women who ran restaurants in the Block, a center of the black business community in Asheville. Chef Malcom McMillian's dishes include smoked pork loin and whole Sunburst trout in piri piri sauce. Brunch highlights include fried chicken and waffles with sweet potato puree.
