Fodor's Expert Review Essenhaus Restaurant
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
With its airy dining space, tall windows, and ceiling fans, this country-style eatery a few miles north of town instantly makes you feel welcome and comfortable. Many of the dishes and baked goods served here—like "church supper ham loaf" (a ham-and-sausage meat loaf) and shoofly pie—are inspired by the area's Mennonite community. Others, like pot roast or beer bratwurst, are pure American and German country cooking. The gift shop carries items crafted by local Mennonites. Breakfast is served Monday to Saturday and brunch on Sunday.
