Fodor's Expert Review Morbid Anatomy Museum
Gowanus
Museum/Gallery
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Just opened in 2014, this small, quirky museum with a focus on death ritual paraphernalia and medical oddities is still building its permanent collection of morbid artifacts even while it hosts changing exhibits like “The Art of Mourning” and “The Collectors Cabinet.” The roster of special events, classes, and talks are a highlight–-especially the anthropomorphic mouse-taxidermy classes–-if you’re into this kind of thing. The main floor has a café and a gift shop stocked with wonderfully morbid books, totes, housewares (digestion-theme dishes anyone), and other curiosities.
