Fodor's Expert Review NYLO New York City
2178 Broadway, New York, New York 10024, USA See on Map
Bringing modern style to the sometimes stodgy Upper West Side, this hotel nods to the jazz era—think raucous bar, decadent living room with a fireplace, and tempting restaurants. This property puts guests in the heart of a residential neighborhood, near Lincoln Center and the green expanse of Central Park.
YOU SHOULD KNOW The location is convenient for Midtown and Uptown attractions, but guests concentrated on lower Manhattan landmarks may feel far away from the action.
room
Bright rooms with wood floors, exposed brick, and views of Manhattan’s iconic water towers are streamlined and cozy. A workspace with ergonomic chairs and in-room Keurig coffeemaker are nice touches.
Some rooms have huge private terraces with great skyline views (and those rooms are pricey).
bathroom
Gray marble bathrooms have spa rain showers and Pure bathroom amenities.
lobby
The low-lit lobby has tufted couches and exposed brick walls. Beyond the front desk area, a living room with fireplace provides additional common space to relax.
dining
Hungry guests can choose between Serafina, a northern Italian favorite, or RedFarm, a contemporary Chinese restaurant (the original West Village location notoriously inspired lengthy lines).
LOCATION
Getting Around
Located on Broadway and West 77th Street, this hotel is a short walk from Central Park and the neighborhood (with less traffic than other areas) is particularly friendly to cyclists. Subway service is nearby with the 1 train at 79th Street and 1, 2, and 3 trains at 72nd Street and Broadway. Taxis and Uber are widely available in the neighborhood.
Restaurants
Tessa (2-minute walk) is a modern Mediterranean restaurant that satisfies a range of appetites with dishes like cauliflower fritto misto and mushroom risotto with a poached egg. New Yorkers still line up for a classic burger and fries at Shake Shack (5-minute walk), but luckily this Upper West Side outpost is typically less busy than the Downtown original. For sushi, sashimi, and noodle bowls, check out Sushi Yasaka (7-minute walk).
WHY WE LIKE IT
This hotel occupies a prime position in a leafy residential neighborhood. We love the rooms with scenic balconies, the cozy lobby living room, and the all-day, convivial bar. In a neighborhood where hotels can feel dated, this property offers an appealing modern option.
