Fodor's Expert Review 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge

60 Furman Street, Brooklyn, New York 11201, USA See on Map

This highly anticipated Brooklyn newcomer (and sibling to 1 Hotel Central Park) opened its doors on the banks of the East River in February 2017. Industrial touches nod to the neighborhood’s past and an eco-conscious attitude is strongly present from the two-story living wall in the lobby to the reclaimed wood floors. The property is opening in stages, with a restaurant, rooftop bar, and rooftop pool in the works.

Open-concept rooms start at 300 square feet and have wide plank wood floors, windows that stretch to the ceiling, and thoughtful extras like a drinking tap with triple-distilled water and a yoga mat in the closet, so you can drink nice water and then do yoga. Bedside iPads make ordering room service quick and easy. Windows open and are flanked by a couch topped with a pile of pillows.

The Skyline 1-bedroom Suites have hammocks beside floor-to-ceiling windows for taking in views of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan skyline.

Spacious bathrooms have sleek gray and white marble, glass-enclosed showers, big mirrors, and ample vanity space. All bathrooms have signature 1 Hotels bath products. Some suites have the addition of a soaking tub.

YOU SHOULD KNOW Bathrooms with glass-enclosed showers exposed to the rest of the room might not suit all guests.

A living wall that climbs to the ceiling of a double-height room is the centerpiece of the breezy lobby. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer Brooklyn Bridge views and a mix of couches and chairs topped with faux furs and plush cushions offer an inviting place to lounge.

Neighbors is a ground-floor café that satisfies cravings from coffee to ice cream. Cocktails and craft beers are served at the small lobby bar. A full-service restaurant is planned for a separate ground floor space and the rooftop will have a bar.

Getting Around

Located on the waterfront along the East River in Brooklyn, this hotel has a picturesque setting near the Brooklyn Bridge. Subway service (A and C trains) is about an 8-minute walk away at High Street; Manhattan is one stop away. The charming neighborhoods of Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO are easy to explore on foot, but guests may find themselves relying on taxis or Uber to access other parts of Brooklyn (though complimentary Tesla rides within a 3-mile radius are available on a first-come, first-served basis).

Tacos and tequila cocktails are served at Gran Electrica (4-minute walk), an unfussy restaurant with a massive back patio. Clam chowder and Maine-style lobster rolls keep the locals coming back to Luke’s Lobster (3-minute walk); take your order to go and picnic in nearby Brooklyn Bridge Park. Pizza is cooked in blazing hot coal ovens at Grimaldi’s (4-minute walk), one of the boroughs famous pizza pie destinations.

Choose from 30 wines available by the glass at Brooklyn Heights Wine Bar (8-minute walk); cocktails are also served. Henry Street Ale House (9-minute walk) is a cozy neighborhood pub serving a rotating list of craft beer.

A friendly and outgoing staff is the cherry on top of a stellar property. We love the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skyline views plus fun extras like free Tesla rides within three miles, water bowls for dogs at the door, and drinking taps with triple-filtered water.
