Fodor's Expert Review The Bavarian
The restaurant inside the romantic, magically situated alpine lodge, which also offers Taos Ski Valley's most luxurious accommodations, serves outstanding contemporary Bavarian-inspired cuisine, such as baked artichokes and Gruyère, and braised local lamb shank with mashed potatoes and red wine–roasted garlic-thyme jus. Lunch is more casual and less expensive, with burgers and salads available. Bavarian is an excellent spot to fuel up before attempting an ambitious hike, as the restaurant is steps from the trailhead for Wheeler Peak and other popular mountains. There's an extensive wine list, plus a nice range of beers imported from Spaten Brewery in Munich, and traditional Swiss fondue is served Tuesday nights in winter.
