Fodor's Expert Review The Blake

107 Sutton Pl., Taos, New Mexico, 87525, USA Fodor's Choice

Part of a continuing effort on the part of Taos Ski Valley's new ownership to up its game, this luxury boutique hotel opened just steps from the resort's lifts in late 2016 and has quickly developed a reputation as the swankiest accommodation in the Taos region. Of course, if you're not here to ski, hike, or pursue other valley activities, the hotel is a bit remote—a 30-minute drive from Taos Plaza—to serve as a base for exploring the area. But the setting is gorgeous, and the amenities, which include a first-rate spa and increased dining options, are excellent. The $60-million LEED-certified hotel with a classic but contemporary French-Swiss Alpine look and vibe contains 80 rooms and suites with earthy tones, plush linens, humidifiers, and—in the suites—gas fireplaces. The largest suites have well-stocked kitchenettes and sweeping mountain views. A fireplace warms the inviting lobby, and 192 at the Blake restaurant is a sleek, stylish spot for drinks or a bite to eat. There's also a year-round heated pool and hot tub.
