Fodor's Expert Review Whitewater Motel & Glenwood Rock Shop
U.S. 180, in the center of town, west side of the street, Glenwood, New Mexico, 88039, USA
Here on the western rim of the Gila is a cozy haven of rustic Americana. The motel opened for business in 1948 and the original, hand-carved white-oak furniture is still in every room. Rooms are simple, comfortable, and immaculate. There's a long balcony off the back of all the rooms that looks out to the huge grassy yard where, when the water's high enough, you can hear the burble of Whitewater Creek beyond. Relaxing at the tables on the grass and listening to it rushing by is a real treat. The proprietor, Marianne, is also the postmistress (the post office is in the motel parking lot)—so if she doesn't pick up the phone, leave a message and be assured she'll call you back. There are two large family rooms that sleep five, for $67 a night.
