Fodor's Expert Review Valentina's

$ West of the Plaza American
This colorfully decorated locals' spot in a shopping center on the West Side doesn't look like anything special from the outside, but it's one of Santa Fe's most consistently excellent purveyors of Mexican and New Mexican fare. If you're at a loss to make a decision after perusing the leviathan menu, consider one of the combo platters piled high with enchiladas, burritos, stuffed sopaipillas, tacos, and the like. On the Mexican side of the menu, you'll find chicken enchiladas with mole verde sauce, tortas, and some tasty seafood dishes. Breakfasts are a favorite meal here (they serve strong Bloody Marys, too)—try the carne asada with eggs. Mariachi bands perform many evenings.
