Fodor's Expert Review The Compound
This gracious, folk-art-filled old restaurant, with stunning decor by famed designer Alexander Girard, is one of the fanciest spots in town, but it maintains an easygoing, distinctly Santa Fe feel. The oft-changing menu devoted to seasonal and local ingredients features rich dishes like sweetbreads and foie gras with cepes, cayenne, and Spanish sherry, and Maine lobster carbonara with bucatini pasta pancetta, a farm egg, and Parmesan. The extensive but expensive wine list will please the most discerning oenophile. Lunch is as delightful as dinner, featuring one of the best burgers in town, especially if you dine amid the gardens on the patio, and the bar menu offers a number of great bites at more palatable prices. For the price, service can be a bit uneven.
