Shohko and her family run this first-rate Japanese restaurant that's known for the freshest, best-prepared sushi and sashimi in town, along with an extensive selection of seafood and veggie tempura, teriyaki grills, udon and buckwheat bonito broths, and izakaya-style starters. On any given night there are two dozen or more varieties of fresh fish available. The soft-shell crab tempura is feather-light, and the salad with crispy panko-crusted calamari is delicious. Sit at the sushi bar and watch the expert chefs, including Shohko, work their magic, or at one of the tables in this old adobe with whitewashed walls, dark-wood vigas, and Japanese decorative details. Table service is friendly, but can be slow.
