Santa Fe Courtyard by Marriott

3347 Cerrillos Rd., Santa Fe, New Mexico 87505, USA

Of the dozens of chain properties along prosaic Cerrillos Road, this one stands out for its solid standards of comfort and service, even though it looks like all the others: clad in faux adobe and surrounded by parking lots and strip malls. Don't fret--it's easy to forget about the nondescript setting once inside this polished miniature resort, which comprises several buildings set around a warren of lushly landscaped interior courtyards.

The hotel is on a busy road—request a room toward the back to avoid street noise.

Aesthetically, the rooms look contemporary Southwestern, and they have a light, sleek look. The rangy suites have separate sitting areas.

Bathrooms are representative of this mid-price chain, with granite counters and shower-tub combinations.

You'll find several comfortable chairs and sofas in the lobby, along with a flat-screen TV and a business area with three computers for guest use. There's also a portal in front with some comfortable outdoor seating, although the view is of the parking lot and Cerrillos Road.

The large indoor pool is a nice amenity year-round, but especially during the colder months; there's a hot tub beside it. Comfortable lounge chairs and tables with are set on a patio just outside from the pool.

There's a nice lexercise room with a few different cardio machines and weights.

The hotel's restaurant is handy for the breakfasts (the cost is about $15 per person) in the morning, and at other times you can stop by to purchase snacks and light fare, including dinner fare in the evening.

The restaurant has a bar with beer, wine, and mixed drinks, as well as Starbucks beverages.

Getting Around

The hotel is along Santa Fe's busiest commercial drag, the unfortunately unattractive Cerrillos Road, which means there aren't too many points of interest within walking distance (Meow Wolf is one notable exception). It's best to have a car if you're staying this far (about a 15-minute drive) from the historic Santa Fe Plaza.

Dr. Field Goods Kitchen (2-minute drive) serves innovative globally inspired fare, such as kimchi patatas bravas and red-buffalo enchiladas, primarily using locally sourced ingredients. One of the favorite spots in Santa Fe for hearty Southwestern-style breakfasts, Tecolote Cafe (5-minute drive) is especially known for its carne y huevos (pork with red chile and eggs) and pinon pancakes (best enjoyed with peach sauce or fresh blueberries).

Head to Duel Brewing (3-minute drive) for fine-crafted, Belgian-style farmhouse ales and terrific sandwiches and other bar food, too. Make your way to the Railroad District to find some of the best margaritas in the city, plus tasty and authentic Northern New Mexican fare, at family-operated La Choza (10-minute drive).

The Courtyard by Marriott has among the best facilities and nicest rooms of the many chain properties in its price range along busy Cerrillos Road. The location is on the city's South Side, a 10- to 15-minute drive from many key attractions, but the fantastic Meow Wolf art installation is within walking distance.
