Fodor's Review

In addition to 4,200-acre Brantley Lake and dam, this park 12 miles north of Carlsbad offers primitive camping areas, nature trails, a visitor center, and 51 fully equipped campsites. Half of the campsites are first come, first served, while the other half can be reserved. There's also fishing for largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, carp, catfish, and walleye pike (though authorities recommend practicing catch-and-release due to the high levels of contaminants). There are boat ramps for those with their own vessel.
