The gilded-dome state house, built in 1819, is the nation's oldest capitol building in which the legislature still uses the original chambers. The visitor center coordinates guided and self-guided tours, bookable online or on-site, and displays history exhibits and paraphernalia from presidential primaries.

Franklin Pierce lived in this Greek Revival home, which overlooks a scenic bend in the Merrimack River at the north edge of downtown.
