When to Go

Low Season

There are no defined high, low, and shoulder seasons in Las Vegas; crowds–-and, correspondingly, hotel and ride-sharing rates–-can fluctuate from week to week, depending on factors such as whether there's a big convention in town. While the first 10 days to two weeks of December tend to be busy because of the National Finals Rodeo, and the days right before and after New Year's Eve are some of the craziest of the year, the late-December period between them tends to be one of the quietest times in Las Vegas, and with the holiday decorations and generally mild weather, one of the most pleasant.

Shoulder Season

Summer is kind of a mixed bag in Las Vegas. Families and casual travelers like to visit at this time of year, but the extreme heat (highs of 116 in July are not uncommon) keeps others away. It therefore falls between the busiest and slowest times.

High Season

You'll want to avoid early January, when the CES convention brings more than 180,000 people to town for exhibits at 10 or more local venues including the sprawling Las Vegas Convention Center. Check the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor Authority website for convention dates and avoid those with the most attendees.
