Fodor's Expert Review Marjorie Barrick Museum

Paradise Road and the East Side Museum/Gallery
Free

This museum on the University of Nevada Las Vegas campus has an excellent permanent collection of objects that predate the arrival of Europeans in the American Southwest and throughout Mexico. There's also a live reptile exhibit featuring regional lizards and snakes, plus a Xeriscape (they call it "Xeric") garden featuring drought-tolerant flora from the four corners of the Earth. For kids, the best experience is the "archaeology dig" in the museum lobby, where they can jump into a (glorified) sandbox and excavate cultural treasures.
