Hyannis Inn Motel

473 Main St., Hyannis, Massachusetts 02601, USA

Kim MacKinnon

The main building of the second oldest motel in Hyannis, a modest two-story spread, served as press headquarters during JFK’s presidential campaign. Today, it's right in the heart of the downtown shopping and retail action. Free parking, an indoor pool and the great location are big pluses for guests.

YOU SHOULD KNOW The inn is closed from early October through late April.

room

The main building’s immaculate (though somewhat dated) guest rooms have double, queen-size, or king-size beds; some have whirlpool tubs. All have refrigerators. Many rooms have a deck or patio.

The deluxe rooms in a separate wing out back are larger, sunnier, and quieter (they don't face Main Street) and have queen- or king-size beds.

bathroom

Generally small and a bit dated, except for the whirlpool tub rooms, but all are spotlessly clean.

lobby

Guests generally congregate on their patios or decks or by the pool.

pool

There is a large heated indoor pool.

The onsite Bluebird restaurant serves breakfast only (not included), which offers eggs, waffles and other typical morning fare. There is complimentary tea and coffee offered each morning in the pool area. There is also a guest microwave in the pool area.

drinking

The Elbowroom Lounge serves inexpensive drinks, but no food.

LOCATION

Getting Around

You can park your car and walk to shops, galleries, restaurants and beaches on foot.

Restaurants

There are any number of restaurant to try within steps of the motel. For seafood, The Naked Oyster & Raw Bar (3-minute walk) offers fresh oysters from their own farm in Barnstable Harbor, along with a variety of other tasty seafood and other dishes. If you’re in the mood for Italian, Alberto’s Ristorante (5-minute walk) serves delicious Northern Italian fare in an upscale setting.

Bars

The Black Cat Tavern (11-minute walk), located on the harbor, is a fun spot to hang out and offers live music four nights a week. In summer, its Shack Out Back Raw Bar and Harbor Shack (both next door) are great for enjoying freshly shucked oysters and lobster rolls. emBargo (1-minute walk) is an upscale tapas and martini bar, with live music or a DJ on many nights.

WHY WE LIKE IT

Reasonably priced, spotlessly clean and convenient to so many things, the Hyannis Inn Motel is a bit of a throwback to different era, when motels were a dime a dozen. While it may not be most cutting-edge in terms of décor, it is comfortable, it has an indoor pool and the staff are exceptionally helpful.
