Fodor's Review

Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.

After 21 years as a beloved Boston staple, Todd English's flagship (and original) gustatory emporium shuttered in 2010 for a face-lift. As of this writing, the reopening is scheduled for spring 2011. Check with the restaurant before planning a visit. The new look is under wraps, but you can count on the retooled version to be worth a visit, with English's wood-fire brick oven, not to mention his signature Olives tart with carmelized onion and goat cheese. You may not see chef Todd English tending the wood-fire brick oven here—these days he's splitting his time between his many restaurants in New York and elsewhere. But don't worry, English's recipes are in good hands. Witness smart offerings such as a number of wood-grilled fish and meat dishes. A view into the open kitchen and noisy dining room only adds to the excitement. If you can't secure a reservation, come early or late or be prepared for an extended wait.
