Overlooking East Cove, a former church is home to the Moosehead Historical Society museums. The center has a fine exhibit of Native American artifacts and items from the Moosehead Lake region, dating from 9,000 BC to the present. Displays about Native American families spotlight Henry Perley, a Maliseet guide and author who gained fame as a performer in Wild West shows and silent movies. An interactive exhibit explores life in this logging town in the 1800s. The aviation museum focuses on the impact of aviation—from early bush pilots to Greenville's annual International Seaplane Fly-In on the weekend after Labor Day—in this remote region, in particular the Air Force B-52 crash north of town in January 1963; most of the plane’s remnants remain scattered on Elephant Mountain, where seven of nine passengers and crew died.
