162 Main St., Freeport, Maine, 04032, USA
Despite some modern appointments, this large hotel has a country-inn ambience throughout. Guest rooms have print fabrics and reproductions of Federal-style quarter-canopy beds. The lobby, restaurant, and about half of the 80-some rooms are in the historic main section; there are also separate town houses and rooms in the pet-friendly carriage house. Deluxe rooms have wet bars, whirlpool tubs, and wood-burning fireplaces (or, in one case, a stove). Ask for a garden-facing room. The formal Maine Harvest Dining Room serves contemporary American regional cuisine, while the excellent Broad Arrow Tavern offers heartier fare and has a patio.
