What's on Tap: Microbreweries

One of the nation’s craft-beer hotbeds, Maine is home to more than 100 breweries, and several of the larger ones—Allagash, Geary's, and Shipyard—are in and around Portland. These breweries are open for tours and tastings, but beer lovers may prefer the smaller brewpubs that make their own beer and serve it fresh from their own taps in neighborhood taverns. In the Old Port you'll find Gritty McDuff's, Sebago Brewing Company, and Liquid Riot Bottling Company. In Bayside there's Rising Tide and Lone Pine Brewing Company. Sign up for one of the excellent sudsy tours offered by Maine Beer Tours (www.mainebeertours.com). Or pick up a Maine Beer Trail map from the Maine Brewers’ Guild (www.mainebrewersguild.org).
