Fodor's Review

Remodeled in the 1980s, "Jax Brewery," as it's commonly known, dates back to the days when New Orleans was the beer capital of the South. Today it houses a three-section shopping-and-entertainment complex, catering mainly to tourists with national clothing chains and souvenir shops. Local retailer Perlis, however, also brings Uptown New Orleans style (and its crawfish-logo polo shirts) to the masses with its Cajun Clothing Co. store here. Outside, multilevel terraces feature sweeping views of the Mississippi River. Inside, there's a small museum that recounts the history of the brewery along with several casual restaurants (although better dining options are found elsewhere).
