Fodor's Expert Review The Troubadour
1111 Gravier St., New Orleans, Louisiana 70112, USA See on Map
One of the newest kids on the block, the Troubadour joined the NOLA hotel district in December 2016. With comfortable rooms, a rooftop bar, and a gourmet restaurant, it’s a hip boutique chain hotel, without being too hip or too boutique or too chain.
YOU SHOULD KNOW The immediate area around the Troubadour can feel desolate and sterile, but you’re centrally located: it’s a 10-minute walk in either direction to the city's more vibrant neighborhoods.
room
Most rooms have a small living area, well-curated art and local books, a minibar of local delights, and a small cocktail-making set up. Check the closet for seersucker robes you will want to take home (and can for $75).
bathroom
Bright and modern with Jonathan Adler beauty products.
lobby
The first floor lobby is small and bustling with action, but the lounge on the second floor has a bar, velvety couches, and coffee tables with books and games. Wander down to the lounge most nights for jazz and other local live music.
dining
Petit Lion is a modern french gastropub, with contemporary versions of delicacies like foie gras and crudo, and familiar comforts like moule and steak frites.
drinking
Monkey Board on the roof has a killer happy hour, panoramic views of the city, and live local music most nights. The second floor lounge is a chill spot for more late night, low key, or rainy day drinks. Expect a sophisticated cocktail list and great wine choices at any of the hotel outlets.
LOCATION
Getting Around
You can easily walk to the St. Charles or Canal St. Streetcar to head Uptown or towards City Park, respectively. It’s a short walk to the riverfront, Canal St., or the French Quarter. The Troubadour driveway makes it convenient to catch cabs or Uber from the hotel.
Restaurants
The CBD is a mix of upscale dining aimed at tourists and casual business lunch spots. Go to Domenica (4-minute walk) for gourmet pizza and more, Luke (7-minute walk) for a fabulous oyster happy hour, or CLEO’s around the corner for cheap mediterranean food (available late night).
WHY WE LIKE IT
It’s the right mix of central location, in house entertainment, and comfortable, aesthetically-pleasing rooms to make it a solid choice for anyone looking for familiar comforts in a more interesting setting.
