Fodor's Expert Review Staybridge Suites New Orleans French Quarter/Downtown
501 Tchoupitoulas St., New Orleans, Louisiana 70130, USA See on Map
A conveniently located suite (studio to two-bedroom) hotel aimed to please extended-stay guests. Features include full kitchens in each room, on-site laundry, and beautiful views of the city.
YOU SHOULD KNOW The name of this hotel is somewhat misleading, as it's actually about a 15-minute walk to the French Quarter.
room
Decor here is pretty standard hotel room, but the rooms are spacious and a good value. The small but well-equipped kitchen (even a dishwasher!) makes your suite feel more like an apartment.
YOU SHOULD KNOW For extended stays, the hotel offers "light" housekeeping services, with a more extended room cleaning only once a week. You can request extra cleaning services if needed.
lobby
The lobby is made up of many small seating areas with tables. There are a few televisions, and complimentary coffee and tea throughout the day.
Laundry machine use is complimentary for guests. Laundry supplies can be bought in the 24-hour convenience store just off of the lobby.
pool
The pool is long but narrow, in a bricked courtyard that also includes two outdoor grills (and tables and chairs) for guests' use.
gym
The gym room consists of a stationary bike, elliptical, treadmill, and one multi-purpose weight training machine.
dining
There is a complimentary breakfast buffet from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. on weekdays, and 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. on weekends. Mondays through Wednesdays, the hotel offers a reception service of free dinner, wine, and beer.
LOCATION
Getting Around
The Canal Street streetcar is about a 5-minute walk from the hotel. It's easy to catch cabs around here, and about a 5-10 minute walk to the French Quarter and elsewhere in the CBD.
Restaurants
Besides cheese and wine to take home, local favorite St. James Cheese Company (2-minute walk) serves fresh salads, sandwiches, and gourmet cheese and meat boards. Next door, Revelator Coffee has great gourmet beans and pastries. For a fancier dinner out, try the Italian delicacies at Marcello's (7-minute walk).
WHY WE LIKE IT
This hotel makes the most sense for travelers looking for a longer stay—the kind of stay that would warrant use of a full-sized fridge and dishwasher. It doesn't have all of the charm of other New Orleans hotels, but if you're looking for a convenient home base at a good value, you've found it.
