Pirate's Alley

Pirate's Alley takes its name, in part, from the popular myth that Jean Lafitte met here with General Andrew Jackson before the Battle of New Orleans. During this meeting, Lafitte supposedly made his offer to double-cross the British. The legend apparently has no historical foundation, but its romance was so appealing that the name of the alley (originally Orleans Alley) was officially changed. Today, it's a picturesque way to get from Jackson Square to the shops and galleries of Royal Street.
