As if this supersleek Japanese-fusion restaurant wasn't hot enough, Japonais got an added boost from the presense of internationally renowned chef Masaharu Morimoto ofIron Chef America. If the lengthy menu looks intimidating, you should feel free to trust the servers to direct you to savories such as sea urchin carbonara, foie gras oysters, and a raft of winning maki-roll combinations including shrimp tempura with asparagus. For a true taste of Morimoto's cuisine, adventurous diners should splurge on the chef's seven-course tasting menu. A traditional seating area with tables is supplemented by a couch-filled lounge, where you can also order from the entire menu, and the indoor-outdoor bar downstairs has seasonal seating along the Chicago River—the latter, not surprisingly, gets supercrowded on weekends.
