Fodor's Review

Chicagoans are typically wary of outside chefs, but it seems that celebrity chef Mario Batali has received the local stamp of approval judging by the popularity of Baffo. Book early: tables fill up quickly at this fine-dining restaurant inside his upscale Italian grocery chain, Eataly. Hyper-regional dishes representing every corner of Italy make up the menu, from Piemontese beef tartare to charred rapini-stuffed pork jowl. There are also fresh-made pasta dishes like pork and veal-filled agnolotti, and garganelli with roasted tomato, ricotta, and fried eggplant. Wine geeks take note of the 600-label list, including a sizeable number of wines by the glass and tastings of rare vintages.
