Fodor's Expert Review Flemish House of Chicago

68 E. Cedar St., Chicago, Illinois, 60611, USA Fodor's Choice

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

This classic, four-story bed-and-breakfast is a good value considering the posh zip code; each of its eight suites has a slightly different decor, but all are roomy and well appointed, with an impressive collection of antique desks, lamp, and armoires. Built in 1892, the suites are converted apartments, so each has its own kitchen complete with dishes, cookware, and utensils; bathrooms are stylish and comfortable. The friendly owners live on-site.

PROS

  • refrigerators stocked with healthy breakfast foods
  • complimentary use of laptops
  • nice residential feel

CONS

  • the owners don't always rent rooms for a single night, though they try to be flexible
  • no spa
  • no pool
