Fodor's Expert Review Wailana Coffee House
Plenty of local gossip, drama, family feuds, and stories fill the history of Wailana Coffee House, a staple in Honolulu since 1969. Budget-conscious snowbirds, night owls with a yen for karaoke, all-day drinkers of both coffee and the stronger stuff, hearty eaters, and post-clubbing club kids all crowd this venerable, family-run diner and cocktail lounge—which recently underwent a renovation of the dining room and kitchen—at the edge of Waikiki. Banana pancakes and corned beef hash at breakfast; French dips, burgers, and Salisbury steak (!) at lunch; and trademark "broasted" chicken at dinner—this place is a trip down food memory lane. It's especially busy for breakfast and open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year (except Wednesday, when the restaurant is only open 6 am–midnight).
