Fodor's Expert Review Makena Beach & Golf Resort

5400 Makena Alanui Rd., Wailea-Makena, Hawaii, 96753, USA

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

This quiet resort (formerly the Maui Prince) has a superb location just south of Makena, in a secluded spot set on a gorgeous beach, and guest rooms all have ocean views (in varying degrees). Rooms, on five levels, surround an atrium garden with a waterfall and koi pond. An activity desk can arrange a wide range of water sports, including snorkeling and stand-up paddling. Complimentary guest activities include lei making, ukulele lessons, oceanfront yoga, and use of bicycles—plus there's a new 2,500-square-foot fitness center and a day spa offering massages in oceanfront cabanas. Storytelling and stargazing sessions, held next to a campfire, are made sweeter with s'mores making. The Pool Bar and Grill has an outdoor pizza oven and the Molokini Bar & Grill offers one of Maui's best Sunday brunch spreads.
