Fodors.com

Nestled amid the avocado, mango, coffee, and kukui trees of a historical plantation estate (circa 1932), this serene home provides a retreat close to the Waipio Valley. Each room has its own character with touches like Chinese antiques or patchwork quilts. A sprawling garden has an orchid-covered deck and a little gazebo has hammocks for indulging your lazy side. Many of the rooms have ocean views. A full organic breakfast is served in the dining room.

YOU SHOULD KNOW There is no cell service in the immediate area, but the B&B does have great wifi. A quick trip to nearby Honokaa (2 miles away) can reconnect you to service.

Upon arrival at the B&B, guests will walk through a beautiful yard full of flowers, plants, and a bamboo grove full of massive stalks that make music as they blow in the wind. Restaurants

Find reasonably priced farm to fork menu items along with sweeping views of the Pacific at Waipio Cookhouse (7 minute drive) or hop back on Highway 240 to grab a box of malasadas (Portuguese donuts) and a superb burger on a sweet Hawaiian bun at Tex Drive-In (7 minute drive).

Bars

Throw back a few cold ones at open mic or karaoke night at Last Call Saloon (4 minute drive) or drive to Waimea to sample a variety of beers at Big Island Brewhaus (22 minute drive).

WHY WE LIKE IT

This is a wonderful place for a relaxing time between activities. The back deck, complete with hammock, gazebo, and partial ocean views and the immaculate garden yard, full of Hawaiian plants and fruits, is a perfect place for quiet reflection.
