A near-perfect spot for couples seeking a romantic getaway in Volcano Village, this historical 1912 two-bedroom cottage evokes a vintage country feeling in keeping with the summer homes of the era. The claw-foot bathtub, hot tub, and fireplace add to the general coziness. Continental breakfast is included, and the restaurants of Volcano Village are nearby.
YOU SHOULD KNOW Mornings and evenings in Volcano can get a bit chilly due to elevation and rainforest moisture. Be sure to pack layers, and take advantage of the cottage’s gas fireplace!
The spirit of old Hawaii is alive and well in this lovingly restored plantation style home. The space is bright and welcoming and the walls are covered with prints depicting Hawaiian history. There are two bedrooms in the cottage with queen size bed and two single beds.
The somewhat spacious bathroom has a lovely claw foot tub, shower, and a good amount of sink/vanity space.
There is a romantic hot tub in a Craftsman style pavilion, set amongst the rainforest foliage.
There is no on-site restaurant, but there is a fully stocked and equipped kitchen, including baked goods, coffee and tea, and plenty of breakfast items.
You will need a car to get around the Volcano area.
The Rim (7 minute drive), inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, offers an incredible view of the volcano glow. Try to get to dinner right before sunset, with plenty of time to see it in the dark – and be sure to make a reservation. If you’re a fan of fish, the local catch specials are almost always impeccably cooked and sauced. Kilauea Lodge Restaurant (3 minute drive) is a great choice for a higher end, full course meal. The cocktails and wine menu have a little something for everyone, and their European-inspired fare will have you ready for a relaxing evening.
Volcano Winery (9 minute drive) offers tastings of their island inspired, island grown wines every day of the year for a small fee. Thai Thai Bistro & Bar (10 minute walk) offers up local brews for a great price, tropical cocktails for a decent price, and a Flaming Thai Thai with an extra little kick.
WHY WE LIKE IT
The cottage is very charming, and the grounds are beautifully manicured, but also engulfed in rainforest beauty that allows for long, lingering walks and a nice place to sip afternoon tea.
