Fodor's Expert Review Vista Waikoloa

Waikoloa Beach Resort, 69-1010 Keana Pl., Waikoloa, Hawaii, 96738, USA See on Map

Older and more reasonably priced than most of the condo complexes along the Kohala Coast, the well-appointed, two-bedroom, two-bath Vista condos have ocean views and two lanai per unit and are within walking distance of A-Bay, the Kings' Shops and Queens' MarketPlace, and the restaurants and amenities of the Hilton Waikoloa. It's also a short drive to the airport, other resorts, and a variety of Big Island sights.

Each unit has plenty of photos and detailed descriptions online, so spend some time finding the right unit for your party.

Each of these privately-owned condos has two bedrooms with varying views and accommodations, but each has air conditioning and a kitchen.

YOU SHOULD KNOW Ground units can have a bit of noise to contend with, but units closer to the golf course are a bit quieter.

Most of the full-sized bathrooms are quite large and feature soaking tubs and walk-in showers.

There is a small office check-in area that is simple and decorated with photos of Hawaii.

The complex has a 75-foot heated lap pool surrounded by lawns, planters, and palm trees and two hot tubs next to the pool.

There is a small fitness room with basic equipment.

There is no on-site restaurant, but each unit has a kitchen and there are outdoor grills near the pool.

Getting Around

You will need a car to get to your accommodations and around the island.

Holuakoa Gardens and Cafe (46-minute drive) is a slow food restaurant that sources lots of its ingredients locally (most within five miles of the restaurant) and changes its menu regularly based on the season and available ingredients. At Lava Lava Beach Club (4-minute drive) you’ll find a menu that includes happy hour specials, daily fish preparations, and island twists on classic foods like hamburgers and ribs all right on the beach. The bar is also a huge draw, with delicious and strong cocktails (the “Big Bamboocha” will definitely get your vacation started well) and a nice wine menu.

Get drinks and a show at Gertrude’s Jazz Bar (43-minute drive), an open-air jazz bar with great beer and wine selections, plus a few decadent desser-tinis to complement their cocktail list. Kona Brewing Company (40-minute drive) has some of the best pizza you’ll find in Hawaii, paired with a fun atmosphere and the chance to taste a variety of their famous brews.

Spacious and affordable, this property has nice amenities in a good location. We especially love that it’s a great option for families and traveling groups.
