Five air-conditioned rooms are available at this bed-and-breakfast near Kealakekua Bay, two of which are detached from the main house in the Ohana Cottage. The bay is a short hike down the hill. There are nice views of the bay from the swimming pool, plus a gated entrance. These accommodations make for nice options away from some of the more touristy choices found closer to Kona.
Most of the rooms have three-night minimums, so leave this option for longer stretches.
Five large guest accommodations can be found in the main home and ohana cottage of this lovely bed and breakfast. Each room has a private entrance, private bathroom, and kitchenettes, as well as comfy memory foam mattresses.
YOU SHOULD KNOW If you’re looking for the most chic, stylish B&B on the island, this probably isn’t it. Bathrooms and cabinetry are quite outdated, but it’s otherwise very comfortable and extremely spacious.
The simple bathrooms are a bit dated, but get the job done. There are only showers, no tubs.
The round pool and adjoining hot tub have amazing views of the ocean and there are a few chairs and a hammock, as well as a nearby covered area, for lounging.
Though there is no on-site restaurant, plans are in the works for the inn to start serving healthy vegan and vegetarian breakfasts in late 2018.
You will need a car to get to your accommodations and to visit the rest of the island.
Kaaloa’s Super Js (9-minute drive) for one of the most onolicious, authentic Hawaiian food you’ll find on the island. If something looks mysterious but delicious, feel free to ask the very friendly staff what it is!
For lovely views and incredible pastries visit The Coffee Shack (12-minute drive) for breakfast or late brunch.
TJ’s Pau Hana Hale (32-min drive) is a new sports bar getting lots of love by locals, particularly because TJ is such a nice guy and makes a mean Old Fashioned.
Kona Brewing Company (33-min drive) has some of the best pizza you’ll find in Hawaii, paired with a fun atmosphere and the chance to taste a variety of their famous brews.
