Cradled between a lovely grass park and Magic Sands Beach Park, this condo complex is great for swimmers, surfers, and sunbathers. The studios vary because they're individually owned, but all are spacious and light, with oceanfront views right above the surf. Most units have lanai. It's also within walking distance of Kahaluu Beach for snorkeling and surf lessons.
YOU SHOULD KNOW The website’s rates are for a three night or more stay, but there is not a three-night minimum – you’re just going to pay extra. You’re also going to pay an $85 non-refundable cleaning fee on stays of three nights or more. Just keep an eye out for these somewhat tricky policies and fees when you’re budgeting for your trip!
Each room differs based on the individual owner, but they all have a nice island vibe in a casual, seaside building. A visit to the website allows you to take a peek into each unit.
Be sure that you double check that the studio has a lanai, if you want one. Not all of them have them, but photos tend to give that impression.
Bathrooms are fairly small and simple, with stand-up showers.
There is a small pool overlooking the ocean and beach available for guests.
There is no on-site restaurant, but each studio has a full kitchen for prepping meals.
There is plenty of fun in walking distance, but you’ll need a car to get around the island.
Kaaloa’s Super Js (21-minute drive) for one of the most onolicious, authentic Hawaiian food you’ll find on the island. If something looks mysterious but delicious, feel free to ask the very friendly staff what it is! Umeke’s (12-min drive) is the island favorite that you’ll want to check out if you’re a fan of poke and seafood – it’s loved by locals and visitors alike.
TJ’s Pau Hana Hale (14-min drive) is a new sports bar getting lots of love by locals, particularly because TJ is such a nice guy and makes a mean Old Fashioned. Bar hopping on Alii Drive (12-minute drive) includes Humpy’s, Laverne’s, and Ocean’s where you can grab a drink and enjoy some warm ocean air. The music gets loud and the dance floors are open on the weekends.
WHY WE LIKE IT
These reasonably priced oceanfront condos are spacious and great for longer stays in the Kona area. The ocean views are comparable to what you’d get in an expensive resort, and the casual environment makes for a laid-back vacation.
