Fodor's Expert Review The Smith House

84 S. Chestatee St., Dahlonega, Georgia, 30533, USA Fodor's Choice

Just a block from the town square, the family-owned Smith House has been serving guests in its inn and family-style restaurant for generations. The inn offers traditional hotel-style rooms in its 1899 historic inn and in a new building just added in 2019. There are also nearby villas with balconies that overlook the square and two houses for those who require a bit more space. Lunch and dinner are available at its popular Southern-style restaurant. During remodeling years ago a gold mine was found 30 feet under the property. Part of a shaft was left uncovered and provides a glimpse into the "underbelly" of the historic property.
