This quiet, older Downtown hotel two blocks off Peachtree Street is priced reasonably for its location; this, along with the hotel's proximity to the Georgia World Congress Center and the AmericasMart complex, makes the hotel popular during conventions. Note that prices go up when conventions are in town. Sofas and a grand piano fill the marble lobby.
YOU SHOULD KNOW This hotel is not on par with other nearby properties as far as technology is concerned. Although it's frequently used among business travelers because of the location in downtown, wifi is incredibly slow, so if you have to do any major uploading or downloading you will have problems.
Bathrooms are white-tiled and have tight shower/tub combos, but offer a fair amount of sink counter space.
The hotel is in need of a major renovation, so much of the lobby decor is circa 1990s but there's a comfortable seating area, brass chandeliers and a beautiful grand piano.
There is a fitness center but it is very small and the equipment is ancient. There is one treadmill, one stationary bike and a few very dated weight machines.
There is no full-service restaurant at this hotel, but there is a complimentary full breakfast served every morning from 7 to 10 am. If you get hungry at any other time, there are snacks and drink vending machines, otherwise you'll have to venture into downtown.
Although there's no full-service restaurant at this hotel, the free continental breakfast goes above and beyond a typical hotel breakfast, with an entire hot section of eggs, sausage, waffles, biscuits and gravy and bacon, as well as pastries, muffins, bagels, fruit and more.
There are no bars at this hotel.
The Peachtree Center MARTA station is a 3-minute walk from the hotel, as well as the Peachtree streetcar stop. There are so many attractions, restaurants and bars within walking distance that a car is completely unnecessary, but if you have one, Barclay offers one of the cheapest private parking rates in the area at $15 per day.
Grab NYC-style pizza and Italian sandwiches and entrees at the casual Slice Downtown (1-minute walk). Enjoy flavorful Mexican and Latin American dishes in a fashionable setting at Alma Cocina (5-minute walk).
Sip cocktails in a covered rooftop bar at SkyLounge, the beautiful and relaxing space atop the Glenn Hotel (8-minute walk). It's a 5-minute walk to Meehan's Public House Downtown, an authentic Irish pub.
WHY WE LIKE IT
This hotel is significantly older than other nearby hotels, but it's also much less expensive. There is a rumored planned renovation starting any day now, but in the meantime the amenities are lacking, and what is there needs a major improvement. The key draw to this property besides the low cost is the fantastic location in the heart of downtown, but you're making a sacrifice as far as quality.
