Fodor's Expert Review The Copper Door B&B
439 N.W. 4th Ave., Miami, Florida, 33128, USA
A charming, small bed-and-breakfast with wonderful hosts is giving visitors a chance to explore the often overlooked Overtown, a historic community near Downtown once called the "Harlem of the South." It's a little off the beaten path and requires a car or ride-share to most sights, but for a deep cultural connection to the revitalizing area and a refreshing perspective of Miami, it's a winner. The duo behind the B&B, Jamila Ross and Akino West, preserved the building's historic elements, including original terrazzo floors, crown molding, hardwood floors and a mosaic tile entryway while updating 22 rooms with modern conveniences and a vintage tropical theme. Even if you're not staying at Copper Door, you should dine on the patio of the B&B's on-site restaurant, Rosie's, which has a menu of Southern favorites, including can't-miss chicken and waffles.
