Fodor's Expert Review Pelican Miami Beach

826 Ocean Dr., Miami Beach, Florida, 33139, United States See on Map

Each awesome room of this Ocean Drive boutique hotel is completely different, fashioned from a mix of antique and garage-sale furnishings selected by the designer of Diesel's clothing-display windows. Rooms are individually named, and repeat guests either try to stay in a different one each time, or else fall in love with one room and request it for every stay. For example, the \"Me Tarzan, You Vain\" room has a jungle theme, with African wood sculptures and a stick lamp; \"Up, Up in the Sky\" has a space theme, with a model rocket and off-kilter furniture.

room

Certainly not cookie-cutter, each room has its own name and design. Channel your inner Elvis in the Viva Las Vegas room, where showgirls strut over the gold headboard. Bring out your inner animal in the Executive Zebra room, where monochromatic animal prints are the theme. Whatever the theme, each of the 29 rooms offers a TV, stereo system, refrigerators, and electronic personal safes. Guests also receive a complimentary continental breakfast and a daily happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Pelican is pet friendly and welcomes pets up to 30 pounds with a $25 per day fee and a $100 non-refundable cleaning deposit.

Big Pink (10-minute walk) offers upscale diner food like burgers, shakes, and a chicken and waffle benedict. Joe's Stone Crab (15-minute walk) is Miami Beach's most famous restaurant. Try its famous stone crab claws, available October through May.

WHY WE LIKE IT
