This boutique hotel, one of several in Miami under the Kimpton brand, has an air of serenity and privacy that pervades this discreet little oasis of personality-driven villas (built in 1930 by architect Henry Maloney) and modern tower units, together capturing the feel of a sophisticated private Mediterranean villa community. The private, landscaped setting makes it easy to forget that the hotel is on busy Washington Avenue, two blocks from the beach. The wonderfully contemporary tower units have private sunning gardens or rooftop terraces with hot tubs, and single-floor kings are set around a lovely pool. A new wing with 85 additional rooms is set to open June 2018.
Rooms are furnished with neutral tones, then accented with pops of blue hues in the curtains, linens, and lighting fixtures. Bamboo floors and mini bars are some of the amenities en suite.
If you want to splurge, ask for a room with a private rooftop terrace or a jacuzzi.
Modern bathrooms feature rainfall showerheads and bath essentials.
Most rooms offer showers only.
The Anglers is a series of smaller hotels, so you'll find multiple seating areas throughout the property.
A lush courtyard pool is designated adults-only. An additional rooftop pool is opening in the later part of 2018.
No on-site gym, but guests have guest privileges at Exhale Barre Yoga Spa. Each room has a yoga mat for impromptu stretching. Beach cruiser bikes are also available.
Most South Beach attractions are within walking distance. A Miami Beach trolley offers free service seven days a week.
Red the Steakhouse (10-minute walk) offers Certified Prime steaks and fresh seafood by chef/partner Peter Vauthy. Prime Italian(10-minute walk) serves red sauce Italian meals like chicken parm and lasagna on a beautiful courtyard.
Employees only (5-minute walk) is the Miami Beach outpost of New York's Employees Only, offering well-crafted cocktails in a secret speakeasy setting. Mac's Club Deuce (5-minute walk) is the ultimate "dive bar" and Anthony Bourdain's favorite haunt when in town.
WHY WE LIKE IT
The Angler's choice of rooms and mix of old and new, gives guests a wide range of experiences. The hotel is centrally located to the beach and most of the shops and restaurants in South Beach.
