The luxury COMO brand brings its zen-glam swagger to South Beach, reinventing the art deco Traymore hotel into a 74-room, Paola Navone–designed boutique hotel that commingles brand signatures (excellent, health-driven cuisine, and myriad spa elements) with Miami panache. Don't expect blaring music here: located at the frontier of South Beach and Mid-Beach, the hotel is tucked into a quiet residential stretch of beachfront, and the hotel prides itself on the tranquil surroundings. Minimalist interiors play off natural lighting and the interaction of an intentionally simple color palette: black, white, and mint green. White leather tufted headboards match the white leather tufted closet doors, framed by the textured walls and spotted terazzo-inspired floors. There are 14 rooms per floor in this mid-rise, headlined by one oceanview suite per floor. Behind the hotel, you'll first find a sleek lounger-lined swimming pool and then a section of serviced beach area; but it's the swimming-pool-size mega hot tub on the roof that impresses the most, doling out incredible ocean views (and flanked by a four-cabin spa, a steam room, and sauna, to boot).
Fans of art deco style will adore the rooms decked out in sherbet tones of mint and pink. Terrazzo and marble flooring keep the room cool while geometric chrome accents lend a hint of sophistication. Rooms are equipped with King beds, complimentary bottled water, a mini-bar, WiFi, coffee maker, and safe.
YOU SHOULD KNOW Basic rooms provide no view, so spring for an ocean view room to wake up to the ever-changing palate of blues and greens of the water.
Bathrooms offer COMO Shambhala bath products and rainfall showers.
The building, protected by Miami Beach's Historic Preservation Board, has been restored to lits original art deco glory. A small, yet elegant, lobby is filled with pastel tones, accented with bold metallics.
A rooftop gym offers treadmills, lifecycles, and strength training equipment with 24-hour access.
Named after the original hotel, the Traymore offers fresh, local seafood and Continental cuisine.
The Traymore Gin Bar offers an extensive gin collection on which to build a classic G&T or martini. The bar hosts special gin and jazz evenings with live music and drink specials.
Most South Beach attractions are walking distance. A free Miami Beach trolley operates seven days and week with three routes to get you around.
Andrew Carmellini's The Dutch (10-minute walk) offers American fare by one of New York's best chefs. Don't forget the pie for dessert, with daily flavor specials. 27 Restaurant and Bar (5-minute drive) features a mashup of Israeli, Florida, and Caribbean flavors made with local ingredients in a refurbished vintage house.
The Broken Shaker (5-minute drive) is a hotbed of action for celebrities, locals, and tourists. Weekend day drinking parties are usually sponsored by different spirits brands and offer barbecues poolside. Sweet Liberty (10-minute walk) is a locals bar that's happened to have won numerous national awards for its cocktail program.
