When to Go

Peak Season: June to August

Summers are warm and sometimes humid. Sea breezes help cool coastal regions. Temperatures seldom reach into the 90s, making for delightful beach weather. Expect seaside crowds and high prices on accommodations.

Off Season: November to February

Warm ocean currents reduce winter chill, although temperatures are colder in the north around Wilmington and inland. Snow is not uncommon, but in general temperatures remain at around 40°F. Despite the cold, this is the time to visit for holiday events, especially those at historic sites.

Shoulder Season: March to May; September to October

Spring and fall are mild, with chilly evenings. Late-spring flowers bloom in lowland fields. Autumn foliage colors state parks and forests. These two seasons may be the most relaxing time to visit, with fewer tourists on the roads and beaches.
