Fodor's Expert Review Phelps Tavern Museum

Simsbury House/Mansion/Villa

Built in 1771 for Captain Elijah Phelps and his family, this museum's period-furnished rooms highlight the years 1786 to 1849, when it was used as a tavern for travelers on the Farmington Canal. There's a period garden on the 2-acre grounds.
