Fodor's Expert Review Grand Mesa National Scenic and Historic Byway
For spectacular views of wildflower meadows, evergreen mesa forests, and high-mountain lakes, take a drive through Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests on the 63-mile-long Grand Mesa Scenic and Historic Byway. Dubbed the "Playground in the Sky," this National Scenic Byway travels along the rim of the world's largest flat-top mountain, offering breathtaking views of Grand Valley more than a mile below. Plan on at least an hour and a half. It follows Highway 65 from Cedaredge at the southern end to I–70 on the northern end (a spur road takes you to the see-forever Lands End Overlook).
