Four-Wheeling

For a short but very sweet four-wheel-drive trip, start at the east end of Colorado Avenue, where a 1¾-mile road from the old Pandora Mill leads to spectacular Bridal Veil Falls, which, at 365 feet, tumbles lavishly from the top of the box canyon. At the northern end of town, off of Oak Street, you'll find Tomboy Road, also known as Imogene Pass Road, which leads to one of the country’s most interesting mining districts. The road has fabulous views of Bridal Veil Falls and Ingram Falls. After about 7 miles, it crests over 13,114-foot-high Imogene Pass, the highest pass road in the San Juans. If you continue down the other side, you end up in Yankee Boy Basin, near Ouray.
